IUP junior guard Jahzinga Tracey has earned her fourth PSAC West Player of
the Week award after a pair of dominating performances in Crimson Hawk wins
over Slippery Rock and Edinboro.
Tracey averaged 26.0 points and 9.0 rebounds while adding four assists, five
steals and three blocked shots for the week. She made 20 of 43 shots from
the field (46.5 percent), including a pair of 3-pointers, and made 10 of 14
free throws (71.4 percent).
In a 77-69 win over Slippery Rock, Tracey posted her ninth double-double of
the season with 27 points and 14 rebounds to go along with four assists and
two steals.
She then shook off first half foul trouble to score 23 of her 25 points in
the second half as IUP secured an 85-81 win over Edinboro. Tracey had four
rebounds and three steals and blocked three Fighting Scot shots.
For the season, the reigning PSAC West Player of the Year ranks third in the
conference in scoring (19.7), rebounding (9.2) and steals (3.68) while also
placing sixth in field goal percentage (.528), tied for eighth in blocked
shots (1.11) and 12th in assists (3.00).
Tracey is ninth on the all-time IUP scoring list with 1,259 points and needs
only 41 more to move all the way up to sixth. If she maintains her scoring
average, she will finish the regular season in second place and fewer than
300 points from Cathy Torchia’s record of 1,722.
Tracey is also third in school history in scoring average (15.7), fifth in
field goals made (530), seventh in rebounds (671), fifth in rebounding
average (8.4) and fourth in steals (242).
With Tracey leading the way, the Crimson Hawks have won nine in a row for
the second time this season and are 18-1 and 3-0 in the PSAC West for the
first time since 1999-00. IUP, ranked fifth in the latest USA Today/ESPN
Division II coach’s poll, hosts Shippensburg on Wednesday at 5:30.
