IUP sophomore forward Jahzinga Tracey has been named the PSAC West Player of
the Week for the final week of the regular season. This is the fourth
time that Tracey has received the award from the PSAC this season.
Tracey
recorded a pair of double-doubles in a 1-1 week for IUP. She had a
total of 61 points and 27 rebounds while making 25 of 48 shots from the
field in a win over Shippensburg and a loss at Lock Haven.
In a thrilling 83-82
overtime win over the Red Raiders that gave IUP the PSAC West title, Tracey
scored 36 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Her point total was just
two shy of the school record held by Cindy Davies against Clarion in 1985.
Tracey hit 15 of 25 shots
and her 15 field goals matched the school record that had been done three
previous times, most recently by Cathy Torchia against Clarion in 1992.
She was also 5 of 6 from the line and added two assists and two steals.
Tracey scored 27 of her
points in the second half and overtime to help the Crimson Hawks wipe out a
seven-point halftime deficit. She had 21 points in the second half and
the first two baskets of the extra session to give IUP a lead it would never
relinquish.
In the regular season
finale against Lock Haven, Tracey scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds
for her 10th double-double of the year. She also had two assists and
three steals.
Her
61 points in the two games gives her 501 on the season, making her just the
second player in IUP history to reach the 500-plateau for a season.
She is 36 shy of the record of 537 set by Jacquie Negrelli in 2001-02.
Tracey is averaging 18.6
points per game, good for third in the PSAC and currently the fourth highest
single season mark in school history. She also stands third in the
conference in rebounding (9.5), second in steals (2.96) and 10th in field
goal percentage (.459).
In addition to those
numbers, Tracey leads the team in blocked shots with 14, has hit 24 of 78
shots from 3-point range and is a 71.0 percent shooter from the free throw
line (71 of 100). She is fifth on the team with 47 assists.
Her 203 field goals made
are just three behind Dianne Corvello's single season record set in 1983-84
while her 442 field goal attempts are a new IUP record. She has scored
20 or more points 11 times this season, including seven of the final nine
games.
IUP is 19-8 on the season
and won the PSAC West with a 9-3 division record. The Crimson Hawks
host Edinboro in a PSAC playoff quarterfinal game Tuesday at 7 p.m. at
Memorial Field House.
