Jahzinga Tracey Named PSAC West Player of the Week; IUP Climbs to No. 6 in the Nation

IUP junior guard Jahzinga Tracey has been named the PSAC West Co-Player of the Week for the second time this season, sharing the award with Shippensburg's Lauren Beckley.

Meanwhile, the Crimson Hawks (7-0) moved up four spots to No. 6 in the nation in the latest USA Today ESPN Division II Coaches poll.  This is the highest IUP has been ranked since January 26, 2000 when the team was 16-0 and No. 4 in the country.

IUP trails only North Dakota, Delta State, Washburn, Cal-San Diego and Alaska Anchorage in the national rankings.  With wins in their first seven games, the Crimson Hawks have matched the 2003-04 team for the second fastest start in school history.

Tracey led IUP to a pair of crossover wins over Bloomsburg and Mansfield last weekend.  She scored 45 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, handed out seven assists and made 14 steals while making 19 of 24 from the field (79.2 percent) and all six of her free throws.

The reigning PSAC West Player of the Year and first team All-East region selection had 24 points and nine steals in a 68-57 win over Bloomsburg on Saturday.  Her point total enabled her to become the 16th player in school history to score 1,000 career points and the fastest woman to reach that milestone (67 games).

Tracey's nine steals against the Huskies matched her career high and fell just one shy of the IUP single game record.  She raised her career steal total to 197, good for seventh in school history.

Tracey followed up her performance against Bloomsburg with her fourth double double of the season, scoring 21 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in a 71-47 victory over Mansfield on Sunday.  She was 9 of 10 from the field and also had five assists and five steals.

For the season, Tracey ranks in top 10 in the PSAC in seven categories, including second in scoring (19.9), third in rebounding (9.7), first in offensive rebounds (3.86), second in field goal percentage (.564), fourth in steals (3.57), eighth in assist-to-turnover ration (+1.28) and seventh in blocked shots (1.00).

IUP returns to action with home games on Saturday and Monday at Memorial Field House.  The Crimson Hawks host Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday in the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Shoot for the Cure Classic and then play Walsh on Monday, marking the return of former IUP standout Katie Glaws, who is an assistant coach for the Cavaliers.
