Holly Sartor Named IUP
Women's Basketball Assistant Coach
IUP women’s basketball head coach Cindy Martin
recently announced the hiring of Holly Sartor as her top assistant.
Sartor, 26, spent the last two years at Sam Houston
State as a graduate assistant, and she graduated in May with a master’s
degree in health and kinesiology.
“Holly
is a great addition to our women’s basketball staff and the IUP athletic
department,” said Martin. “She has four years of college coaching
experience, she is very organized and has many recruiting contacts. I
love her energy and passion for the game, and she’ll contribute right
away.”
Sartor, a native of Kilgore, Texas, finished up her
playing career at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas in 2002. She
earned her undergraduate degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in
teacher education.
At LeTourneau, she was twice named academic
all-conference and helped her team reach the regional tournament three
times, including her senior year as a starter.
From there she spent one year as the top assistant
at Grayson County College, a junior college in Denison, Texas. There
she helped the team to a 20-11 record and a regional tournament
appearance.
Sartor returned to her hometown for the 2003-04
season when she was the assistant at Kilgore Junior College.
Sartor’s primary duties at IUP will include
recruiting and academics. She will be the director of IUP’s Susan G.
Komen Shoot for the Cure Classic in November and will be a key part of
the team’s community service efforts.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to help continue
to build the success of the IUP women’s basketball program under Cindy
Martin,” Sartor said.
Sartor replaces Melissa O’Neil, who spent the last
three seasons as IUP’s top assistant.
