Reception Planned for March 27 to Honor IUP Women's Basketball Team

A reception to honor the IUP women’s basketball team, is set for Tuesday, March 27 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Field House.

The free reception is open to the public, and all fans are encouraged to attend.  IUP players and coaches will be on hand to be recognized for their outstanding season.  The event is being sponsored by First Commonwealth Bank.

The day is designated as "Spirit Day" and everyone planning to attend is encouraged to wear crimson and gray to show their support of IUP athletic teams and student-athletes.

The Crimson Hawks recently completed one of the most successful seasons in school history by winning the PSAC championship and making an appearance in the championship game of the NCAA Division II East Region tournament.

IUP was within one win of advancing to this week’s Elite Eight in Kearney, Neb., but lost to Glenville State, the No. 2 ranked team in the country, 65-59, on March 12.

The Crimson Hawks had a record of 24-9, which tied for the second most wins in school history, and won five playoff games in addition to claiming the second conference title in school history. IUP won the PSAC West with a record of 9-3 in division play.

Individually, guard/forward Jahzinga Tracey was named the PSAC West Player of the Year and was the MVP of the PSAC tournament, and Cindy Martin was chosen as the division’s Coach of the Year.

Katie Glaws, Lauren Fisher and Staci Heberling were selected to the PSAC West second team.  Tracey and Glaws were named to the East Region all-tournament team.
