IUP Women's Basketball
Team Bags Groceries to Help Fight Cancer
See pictures below story
The IUP women’s basketball team
joined forces with the American Cancer Society to help fight cancer by
volunteering to bag groceries at Giant Eagle in Indiana on October 4.
That date is National Grocers Fight
Against Cancer Day, and this marks the second straight year that the IUP
women's hoops team participated in this event.
Last October, the team helped Giant
Eagle raise $50,000 for the American Cancer Society, a figure they hope
to top this year.
As part of the event, Giant Eagle
used volunteer baggers to help defray its costs and in return, the store
donated a percentage of its sales to the American Cancer Society.
"This is a very important day
nationally, and the team was happy that we were invited back to help
out," said IUP head coach Cindy Martin.
"We are also hosted our 2nd Annual
Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation 'Shoot for the Cure' women's
basketball tournament in November. All of our activities are
intended to do our part to help the IUP and Indiana communities."
