Kylie Miller scored 15
points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her first career double double to lead
IUP to a 70-41 victory over host Pitt Johnstown on Wednesday night.
The Crimson Hawks, ranked
ninth in the USA Today/ESPN Division II Coaches Poll, improved to 11-1 on
the season while the Mountain Cats fell to 2-6.
It was the first win for
IUP over Pitt Johnstown in the regular season since the 1999-00 season.
The Crimson Hawks snapped an eight-game losing streak in the series with a
win in last year's NCAA East Region semifinals.
Miller hit 6 of 11 from the
field, including three baskets from 3-point range, and added four assists.
Jahzinga Tracey had a game-high 16 points to go along with eight rebounds,
three steals and three blocked shots while Hillary Shope joined Miller with
three 3-pointers and finished with 14 points.
Staci Heberling contributed
nine points and eight rebounds and Lacey Claar tied Miller for the team lead
in assists with four.
Lindsay Cale was the lone
Mountain Cat in double figures, scoring 15 points.
IUP never trailed in the
game and broke it open midway through the first half. Leading 11-6,
the Crimson Hawks scored the next 15 points, with consecutive 3-pointers by
Miller and Shope making it 26-6 with 6:52 left before halftime.
The lead reached 26 on
another long distance shot, this one by Laura Canteri, with 1:18 to go
before the break, and IUP took a 36-16 lead into the locker room.
Miller had all three of her
3-pointers and scored 11 points in the opening 20 minutes.
The Crimson Hawks scored 14
of the first 18 points of the second half as the lead hit 30 for the first
time at 50-20 on a 3-pointer by Claar. The biggest lead came at 70-35
on a layup by Lauren Kukic with 3:26 to play.
IUP returns to PSAC
crossover action this weekend with 1 p.m. games at Kutztown on Saturday and
East Stroudsburg on Sunday.
