IUP Pulls Away from Millersville to Complete Perfect PSAC Crossover Season

Boxscore and play-by-play

Jahzinga Tracey scored 14 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out seven assists and made four steals to lead IUP to a 68-54 victory over visiting Millersville on Sunday to complete its second perfect PSAC crossover season in the past three years.

The Crimson Hawks (15-1), ranked ninth in the nation, improved to 15-1 with their sixth straight win.  IUP won all seven crossover games this season and is 20-1 against the PSAC East in the regular season in three years under head coach Cindy Martin.

Kylie Miller and Lacey Claar both added 10 points for IUP, with Miller pulling down a team-high eight rebounds.  The Crimson Hawks shot only 35.2 percent from the field but their defense forced 25 Millersville turnovers.

Gladine St. Julien was the lone Millersville player in double figures with 14 points.  Raquel Green had 11 rebounds and blocked three shots for the Marauders (10-4).

IUP never trailed in the game but could not shake Millersville despite building leads of 14 in the first half and 11 after the break.  The Crimson Hawks still led by only five when Miller hit a 3-pointer and layup off a steal by Tracey to make it 42-32 with 15:41 remaining.

The Marauders responded with a 6-0 run over the next 3:15, pulling to within 42-38 on a jumper by Jenna Craig at the 12:26 mark.  Two layups by Tracey were matched by a pair of baskets by Ashley Romanoski to leave it at 46-42 with 9:52 left.

That's when IUP put on the surge that finally sealed the victory.  A 3-pointer by Claar ignited a 13-3 run that ended with the Crimson Hawks in front 59-45 with 5:07 left to play.  Kierstin Filla starred in the game deciding run with three straight baskets and Heberling added two hoops at the end.

Millersville did not get closer than 12 the rest of the way, and the IUP cushion reached as high as 19 when a jumper by Tracey made it 68-49 in the final minute.

IUP opens defense of its PSAC West title on Wednesday when Clarion visits Memorial Field House for a 5:30 contest.
