IUP returned to action
Wednesday night for the first time since going 3-0 at Disney’s Division II
Tip-Off Classic over the weekend and dropped a 92-46 decision to James
Madison in an exhibition game.
Jahzinga Tracey, Hillary
Shope and Kylie Miller each scored 10 points for the Crimson Hawks. Tracey
led the team with five rebounds and joined Shope with three steals while
freshman Lacey Claar dished out three assists.
Dawn Evans led five Dukes
in double figures with 21 points while Tamera Young had 14 points and 14
rebounds. James Madison held IUP to 24.2 percent shooting and maintained a
57-26 advantage on the boards.
The Dukes were 27-6 and
played in the NCAA Division I tournament a year ago.
IUP stayed close for most
of the first half, pulling to within seven twice in the final five minutes
of the period, with a 3-pointer by Shope making it 35-28 with 1:23 remaining
before halftime.
But James Madison scored
the final five points of the first half and then continued its run by
scoring the first eight points of the second stanza to build a 48-28 lead.
The Crimson Hawks could not get closer than 16 the rest of the way.
IUP resumes its regular
season November 17-18 against Charleston and Salem International at
California’s Holiday Inn Classic.
