Jahzinga Tracey scored 24
points and became the 16th player in IUP history to score 1,000 points,
leading the Crimson Hawks to a 68-57 victory over Bloomsburg in a PSAC
crossover game Saturday at Memorial Field House.
IUP, ranked 10th in the
country, stayed undefeated at 6-0 in its first home game of the season while
Bloomsburg dropped to 3-3. The Crimson Hawks improved to 14-1 in
crossover games in three seasons under head coach Cindy Martin.
Tracey hit 10 of 14 field
goal attempts and all three of her free throws to become to fastest IUP
woman to ever reach the 1,000-point plateau. The junior has 1,003
points in only 67 career games.
Tracey also led the IUP
defensive charge with nine steals, matching her career high and falling one
shy of the school single game record. The Crimson Hawks forced 34
Bloomsburg turnovers, including 26 in the first half as IUP built a 37-24
lead.
Kylie Miller joined Tracey
in double figures with 14 points. Staci Heberling led IUP with seven
rebounds while Lacey Claar dished out four assists. Eryn Withers
scored eight points, all in the first half.
Colleen Kegerreis had a
double double for the Huskies, tying for the team lead in scoring with 13
points while pulling down 10 rebounds. Lauren Healy also had 13
points, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range.
IUP trailed for most of the
opening portion of the first half before a 3-pointer by Withers gave the
Crimson Hawks a 13-11 lead with 9:09 left before halftime. A basket by
Kegerreis tied it before two free throws by Tracey at the 7:43 mark gave IUP
the lead for good.
Those free throws started
IUP on a 17-4 run that included seven points by Tracey and three assists by
Claar and ended with a Claar free throw with 2:30 left that made it 30-17.
The lead grew to as many as 15 before the Crimson Hawks took a 37-24 lead
into the locker room.
The lead never slipped
below double figures during the second half, although Bloomsburg did pull to
within 10 on three occasions, the last time at 54-44 with 7:37 remaining.
Tracey reached the 1,000-point mark with her basket with 6:37 left in the
game.
IUP finishes its first
crossover weekend of the season with a 1 p.m. home game on Sunday against
Mansfield.
