IUP Sees PSAC
Crossover Winning Streak Snapped with Loss at West Chester
Boxscore
and play-by-play
IUP lost a PSAC crossover game for the first time under head coach Cindy
Martin, dropping a 67-63 decision at West Chester on Saturday afternoon.
The Crimson Hawks (9-5) had won 12 in a row against PSAC East
competition over the past two seasons but were held to 32.8 percent
shooting by the West Chester defense. IUP had won seven of its
last eight games overall.
Katie Glaws led IUP with 19 points and nine rebounds, with her point
total including four 3-pointers. Glaws became the all-time career
leader in that category last Sunday against East Stroudsburg and now has
132 in four seasons.
Jahzinga Tracey was the only other IUP player in double figures,
finishing with 15 points while grabbing seven boards. Kylie Miller
had five assists and made six steals, and Lauren Fisher had eight
rebounds.
Natalie Winters led three West Chester (5-7) players in double digits
with 17 points. Katie Kline contributed a double-double with 12
points and 10 rebounds, and Catherine Andrews also had 12 points.
IUP nearly pulled off a tremendous comeback victory after trailing 60-50
with 4:06 left in the game. A 3-pointer by Miller at the 3:09 mark
triggered a 9-2 run, with the Crimson Hawks pulling to within 62-59 when
Glaws made a free throw with 1:11 remaining.
But the Golden Rams were able to hold off the IUP rally by making 5 of 6
from the line in the final 1:03.
West Chester led 27-17 in the waning moments of the first half before
IUP was able to seize some momentum on the strength of a pair of
3-pointer by Glaws in the final 18 seconds of the period to bring the
Crimson Hawks to within four at the break.
IUP finally took the lead for the first time since the early stages of
the first half when a 3-pointer by Tracey made it 39-38 with 12:23 left
in the game.
The Crimson Hawks also led at 42-40 on a 3 by Glaws and 44-42 on a
jumper by Kierstin Filla. But the Golden Rams took the lead for
good at 47-44 on a 3-pointer by Andrews with 9:44 to play.
IUP finishes crossover play for the 2006-07 season on Sunday at
Millersville. Tipoff is at 1 p.m.
