Jahzinga Tracey scored 23 points, grabbed nine rebounds and made six
steals to lead IUP to a 76-66 win at Millersville and wrap up a
crossover season which saw the Crimson Hawks win six of seven games.
IUP (10-5) rebounded from a loss at West Chester on Saturday to improve
to 13-1 against the PSAC East in two seasons under head coach Cindy
Martin. Millersville dropped to 8-7 with the loss.
Three other IUP players finished in double figures, with Lauren Fisher,
Staci Heberling and Katie Glaws each contributing 10 points.
Fisher tied Tracey for team rebounding honors, and Kylie Miller dished
out six assists to go along with nine points.
Jenna Craig led Millersville with 14 points. Jenna Philo added 13
points and nine assists and Jamika Rehm scored 11.
It appeared that IUP was on its way to one of the most lopsided wins in
school history, racing to a 21-2 lead after spotting the Marauders the
first two points of the game. Fisher scored the first six points
of the run which culminated with a 3-pointer by Tracey.
The lead continued to grow, reaching 36-9 on a jumper by Fisher with six
minutes left in the first half before Millersville was able to cut its
deficit to 40-20 at halftime.
IUP maintained a lead of between 18 and 21 points for most of the second
half, and the Crimson Hawks were in front 66-45 after a pair of free
throws by Heberling with 5:14 left in the game.
After Millersville climbed to within 12 on two occasions, two free
throws by Glaws at the 1:03 mark made it 72-58. Philo and Ashley
Moyer made back-to-back 3-pointers for Millersville that made it 72-64,
but Heberling and Tracey answered with two charity tosses each to
finally put the Marauders away.
IUP opens PSAC West play at Clarion on Wednesday at 6 p.m. followed by a
home date against Edinboro on Saturday at 1 p.m. IUP will host
its annual Alumni Day on Saturday, including recognition of former
players at halftime.
