IUP Falls to Glenville State in NCAA Division II East Regional Championship

Boxscore and play-by-play

IUP fell six points shy of the Elite Eight with a 65-59 loss to Glenville State in the championship game of the NCAA Division II East Regional at Lilly Gym in Glenville, W.Va.

Glenville State (33-2), the nation’s No. 2 ranked team, wiped out a 29-24 halftime deficit to win its 27th straight game and capture the East Region title for the second time in school history. IUP (24-9) was attempting to match its 1999 trip to the Elite Eight.

Katie Glaws and Jahzinga Tracey were named to the all-tournament team from IUP. Glaws, playing in her school record 114th game, led the Crimson Hawks with 14 points, followed by Tracey with 13 and Staci Heberling with 10.

Glenville State All-American Rachel Redick led all scorers with 19 points, including 10 in the first 3:35 of the second half to overcome the five-point IUP halftime lead. Christy Alltop and Melanie Oliver both scored 10 points for the Pioneers, who have now won 91 of their past 93 games at Lilly Gym.

Redick, Oliver and Casey Taylor were chosen to the all-tournament team from Glenville State, with Redick earning tournament MVP honors.

The Crimson Hawks had won all five of their previous postseason games this season, including three in the PSAC tournament and two in the East Regional, before falling short on Monday night.

IUP’s 24 wins this season ties the second highest total in school history, matching the 1999-00 team which finished 24-5.
