Katie Glaws Reaches 1,000-Point Plateau in IUP Victory at Edinboro

Boxscore and play-by-play

Senior guard Katie Glaws scored 15 points and became the 15th player in IUP history to score 1,000 career points, helping IUP post a 78-66 victory at Edinboro on Saturday afternoon.

Jahzinga Tracey scored a game-high 22 points to lead IUP (17-6, 7-1 PSAC West) to its fifth straight win.  Lauren Fisher was the third Crimson Hawk in double figures, finishing with 13 points.  Glaws led IUP with eight rebounds, one more than Tracey and Fisher.

Fisher and Kierstin Filla both dished out five assists, and Tracey made four steals.  Glaws and Fisher both contributed three thefts.  IUP shot 50 percent from the field and forced 27 Edinboro turnovers.

The win guarantees that IUP will enter the final two weeks of PSAC West play with at least a two-game lead in the loss column, pending the outcome of California's game at Lock Haven later Saturday afternoon.

Kelsey Conklin led Edinboro (12-11, 4-5) with 20 points, followed by Samantha Reimer with 17, Rachel Johnson with 15 and Kelly Calderone with 11.  Calderone, who was averaging 18.5 points entering the game, hit just 2 of 8 field goal attempts.

Glaws has a career point total of 1,010 and reached the milestone with her 3-pointer with 17:26 remaining in the game.  She hit all three of her shots from behind the arc, increasing her career total in that category to a school record 151, and extended her season mark to 52, also an IUP record.

Glaws is the first IUP player to reach the 1,000 plateau since Jacqui Martin in 2004.

Tracey scored 20 or more points for the fourth time in the past five games and eighth time overall this season.  She is averaging 17.7 points per game for the year, a mark that currently ranks in a tie for the seventh highest single season figure in IUP annals.

The Crimson Hawks led by as many as 12 in the first half at 20-8 before Edinboro ran off 10 straight points to get back to 20-18.  IUP was able to maintain its advantage and took a 38-29 lead into intermission.

Edinboro came out hot in the second half and eventually tied the game at 45 on a 3-pointer by Reimer with 16:10 left in the game.  But Glaws answered with her second long distance shot of the half to give IUP a 48-45 lead at the 15:46 mark, and the Crimson Hawks never surrendered its advantage.

The lead was never more than five over the next nine minutes, and Edinboro was within 59-57 after a free throw by Calderone with 7:16 remaining.  IUP responded by scoring the next six points, including a steals and layups by Fisher and Kylie Miller that made it 65-57 with 6:11 to go.

The Fighting Scots got no closer than six the rest of the way, and IUP scored eight of the final 10 points of the game to produce the final margin of 12 points.

IUP hosts Slippery Rock on Wednesday night as the Crimson Hawks look avenge their lone PSAC West defeat of the season.  Tipoff at Memorial Field House is at 5:30.
