IUP had its five-game
winning streak snapped with a 69-63 loss to Pitt Johnstown Wednesday night
at Memorial Field House. The Crimson Hawks dropped to 7-4 while the
Mountain Cats improved to 8-3.
Jahzinga Tracey matched her
season high with 22 points and Katie Glaws had her second double-double in
the past three games with 18 points and 11 rebounds, but it was not enough
to prevent IUP's first loss since November 29.
Glaws had a pair of
3-pointers to give her 123 in her career, just four shy of Jess Conner's
school record. Glaws and Tracey both had three steals against Pitt
Johnstown, with Lauren Fisher swiping four while also dishing out four
assists.
Jessica Zapf led Pitt
Johnstown with 22 points and 11 boards. Allison Krischer had 17 points
while Lindsay Cale added 10.
IUP led 39-32 at halftime
behind 16 points by Tracey. Her 3-pointer gave the Crimson Hawks a
32-30 lead, and her layup in the final minute capped a 12-2 run in the final
4:20 of the half.
The second half was tight
the whole way, with neither team leading by more than six points. A
free throw by Tracey created a 55-55 tie with 7:00 remaining, but a basket
by Zapf 37 seconds later gave Pitt Johnstown a lead it would never
relinquish.
Zapf followed with four
straight free throws to boost the Mountain Cat lead to 61-55, but IUP
battled back to within 63-61 on a three-point play by Tracey with 2:50
remaining.
Trailing 64-61, the Crimson
Hawks had two chances to tie the game, but 3-pointers by Glaws and Kylie
Miller were off the mark, and Pitt Johnstown secured the win at the line,
hitting 6 of 8 in the final 50 seconds.
IUP returns to PSAC
crossover play this weekend with home games against Kutztown on Saturday and
East Stroudsburg on Sunday, both tipping off at 1 p.m.
