IUP snapped a two-game losing streak with a 76-59 victory over Slippery
Rock in a PSAC West contest Wednesday night at Memorial Field House.
Mame Brumbaugh led IUP (14-6, 3-2 PSAC West) with a game-high 16 points.
Jahzinga Tracey had her third double-double in the past six games with
14 points and 11 rebounds while Kara Taylor came off the bench to score
11 points.
Lauren Fisher, Katie Glaws and Staci Heberling contributed eight points
each for the Indians while Lizzie Suwala had seven. Kylie Miller
dished out five assists for IUP.
IUP shot 53.1 percent from the field (34 of 64) and forced 18 turnovers.
Angela Greaser led Slippery Rock (11-10, 3-3) with 15 points, seven
rebounds and five assists. Amanda Chojnacki had 11 points while
Amber McFeely joined Greaser with five assists.
IUP led 19-15 midway through the first half before taking control of the
game on the strength of a 18-8 run to make it 37-23 with 3:15 left
before halftime. As part of the balanced attack on the night,
seven different players scored as part of the decisive run.
IUP settled for a 40-29 lead at halftime, shooting 54.5 percent over the
opening 20 minutes and turning the ball over only five times.
Slippery Rock cut a 13-point deficit down to eight at 49-41 on a
3-pointer by Greaser with 14:08 left. IUP then put the game away
for good, scoring 13 of the next 14 points, with a jumper by Julie Gallo
giving the Indians their largest lead at 62-42 with 8:43 on the clock.
IUP concludes its first trip through the PSAC West with a game at
Clarion on Saturday night at 6:00.
