Six Players Reach Double Figures in IUP Rout of Ohio Valley

Boxscore and play-by-play

Six IUP players scored in double figures, led by Kara Taylor's 19 points, to lead the Indians to their third straight win, a 97-55 rout of visiting Ohio Valley in a non-conference game Thursday night.

Taylor scored all of her points in the second half, including 16 in the opening 5:48 of the stanza that was part of a 26-2 run that turned a 42-26 halftime lead into a huge 68-28 margin with 14:12 left in the game.

IUP improved to 5-3 on the season while Ohio Valley fell to 4-3.  The Indians avenged a 73-58 loss to the Fighting Scots a year ago in Vienna, W.Va.

Taylor was followed in the scoring column by Mame Brumbaugh and Julie Gallo with 13 each, Katie Glaws with 12 and Kylie Miller and Lizzie Suwala with 10.

Taylor hit 7 of 8 field goal attempts in the second half, with five coming from 3-point land, one shy of the single game record that she shares.  Taylor also led IUP with eight rebounds as part of a 57-36 margin on the glass, had four assists and two steals.

Lauren Fisher handed out eight assists as IUP recorded assists on 25 of its 38 baskets in the contest.  Brumbaugh joined Taylor with four assists.

Britney Brooks hit five 3-pointers and led Ohio Valley with 16 points.  Natasha Holloway and Caley Stevens both scored 10, and Nykoya Randle had 10 rebounds.

The game was tied at 12 seven minutes into the first half before IUP embarked on its first big scoring run of the game.  The Indians scored the next 10 points, taking their first double digit lead at 22-12 on a jumper by Gallo with 8:04 left in the period.

That basket started a surge by Gallo that saw the senior forward score nine of IUP's next 11 points that culminated in a 32-17 lead with 4:45 to go before the break.

Suwala had two 3-pointers late in the half, and her jumper in the lane gave IUP a 42-17 lead with 2:39 left in the half.  Ohio Valley made a brief run, scoring the final nine points to trim its deficit to 16 going into the locker room.

But Taylor ended any threat of a Fighting Scot comeback with her scoring barrage after halftime.  The IUP lead grew to as many as 49 at 97-48 on a basket by Nina Jackson with 2:16 left in the game.

IUP is off for final exams and return to action December 20-21 when Kutztown and West Chester visit Memorial Field House for consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover games.
