IUP Dominates La Roche
in Scrimmage at Memorial Field House
IUP topped Division III La Roche, 96-56, Sunday in
a scrimmage game at Memorial Field House.
It was the final preseason tune up for the Indians,
who open the regular season Friday at the Millersville Tip-Off
Tournament against Bridgeport at 1 p.m.
Freshman Lizzie Suwala led three IUP players in
double figures with 15 points including two three-pointers and a
three-point play the old fashioned way.
Forward Nina Jackson, a junior transfer from
Western Michigan, had 12 points, including a 6-for-8 performance from
the free throw line.
Veteran Katie Glaws tallied 11 points, Kylie Miller
added nine and Jahzinga Tracey and Mame Brumbaugh scored eight points
each. Kara Taylor chipped in seven points, and each of the 12 IUP
players that dressed scored at least four points.
As a member of the IUP volleyball team, backup
guard Krista Nordby will dress when the Indians’ volleyball season is
over.
IUP dominated the boards, 53-35, and had 18
turnovers compared to 20 for La Roche.
The Indians jumped out to an 11-6 lead before
reeling off an 11-0 run to lead 22-6 midway through the first half. IUP
cranked the lead up to 30-10 and eventually 42-21 with 2:00 left before
Staci Heberling’s halfcourt shot made it 49-25 at halftime.
