Complete game stats and play-by-play
IUP was held to 46
points for the third consecutive game and lost for the fourth
straight time, dropping a 72-46 PSAC West decision at Shippensburg
on Saturday afternoon.
The Indians fell to
7-10 overall and 0-3 in the PSAC West while the Red Raiders improved
to 10-6 and evened their slate at 1-1 in the league.
Emily McMahan was
the only IUP player in double figures, coming off the bench to score
12 points. McMahan hit 4 of 5 from the field, including both
of her three-pointers and free throws. The rest of the IUP
squad managed to convert 11 of 50 field goal attempts.
Kim Strickland led
Shippensburg by posting a double-double with 18 points and 10
rebounds. Jennifer Scaffidi, the leading scorer in the PSAC,
tallied 17 points while Megan Fogle tallied 11. Casey Reath
had nine rebounds and tied Scaffidi with five assists.
In addition to
their struggles offensively, IUP was outrebounded by a 44-29 margin.
IUP never led in
the contest. A basket by Molly Miller with 12 minutes left in
the first half pulled the Indians within 16-12, but the Red Raiders
followed with a 9-0 run over the next 2:37 to build a 13-point lead.
Shippensburg
eventually took a 21-point lead at 37-16 with 2:16 to go in the
first half. Three-pointers by Mame Brumbaugh and Katie Glaws
concluded the first half scoring, leaving Shippensburg ahead 37-22
at the break.
The run was quickly
ended by the Red Raiders at the outset of the second half.
Katie Lazor scored just 24 seconds into the period, and a
three-pointer by Scaffidi 26 seconds later made it 42-22. IUP
got no closer the rest of the way.
IUP returns home on
Wednesday for another tough PSAC West contest when Edinboro visits
Memorial Field House for a 5:30 game.
