IUP Snaps Losing Skid by Defeating Mansfield in PSAC Crossover Contest

Complete game stats and play-by-play

IUP placed four starters in double figures, led by Katie Glaws with 14 points, as the Indians ended a four-game skid with a 64-54 win over Mansfield in a PSAC crossover game Saturday at Memorial Field House.

IUP evened its record at 6-6 while Mansfield dropped to 5-6.  The Indians never trailed after an 11-2 run midway through the first half wiped out a 16-15 Mountaineer lead.

Glaws hit 10 of 13 free throws in posting her team-leading scoring total while also pacing IUP with nine rebounds, dishing out four assists and making three steals.

Molly Miller followed with 13 points, and Mame Brumbaugh and Kara Taylor both tallied 12.  Taylor hit 3 of 5 from three-point range as the Indians made 8 of 16 from long distance as a team.

Jessica Uhrich led Mansfield with 16 points and also pulled down eight boards.  Stephanie Rieser had 14 points and a team-high nine rebounds, and Alison Tagliaferri contributed 13 points.  Mansfield committed 27 turnovers, with IUP making 18 steals.

Brumbaugh, Miller and Taylor each joined Glaws with three steals each.

The first 10 minutes of the game saw the lead change hands eight times, with the Mountaineers taking the advantage for the final time at 16-15 on a three-pointer by Uhrich at the 10:50 mark.  Taylor hit from long range and Uhrich had a layup to leave the game tied at 18.

From that point on, IUP controlled play.  The Indians scored the next eight points, with another three by Taylor giving IUP the lead for good at 21-18 with 9:25 to go in the first half.

The cushion grew to eight on three occasions, the last time at 31-23 on two free throws by Glaws with 1:11 to go.  IUP settled for a three-point lead at intermission.

The Indians quickly expanded their lead at the outset of the second half.  After Mansfield again cut its deficit to five at 35-30, IUP went on a 12-2 run to build a 47-32 margin with 13:15 left in the game.  Miller scored seven points during the surge.

The lead stayed in double digits until there was 4:39 remaining when Mansfield pulled to within 54-45 on a layup by Rieser off her own offensive rebound.  But IUP was able to maintain its comfortable lead, never allowing Mansfield to get closer than eight.

IUP concludes its PSAC crossover weekend with a Sunday game against East Stroudsburg at Memorial Field House beginning at 1:00.
