Gallo Shines as IUP Completes Weekend Sweep with Win over East Stroudsburg

Complete game stats and play-by-play

Julie Gallo scored a career-high 26 points to lead IUP to a 69-56 win over East Stroudsburg and helping the Indians complete a sweep of its PSAC crossover games over the weekend.

One day after snapping a four-game losing streak with a victory over Mansfield, IUP rode Gallo and a double-double from Molly Miller (10 points, 10 rebounds) to its second straight win.  The Indians improved to 7-6 while the Warriors fell to 5-7.

Mame Brumbaugh was the third IUP player in double figures, finishing with 10 points.  Kara Taylor dished out six assists and joined Miller with four steals.

Niki Cox led East Stroudsburg with 17 points.  Nicole Jones had 12 and Maryellen Onofre tallied 11.  Jones also led East Stroudsburg with six rebounds.

Gallo hit 12 of 19 from the field and easily eclipsed her previous single game best of 16 against Mansfield during her freshman year.  The 26 points is the highest total by an IUP player so far this season.

IUP trailed only once the entire day, falling behind 4-3 just 2:19 into the contest.  A three-pointer by Katie Glaws 40 seconds later gave the Indians a lead their would never relinquish, although they had a hard time putting the Warriors away.

IUP built an 11-point lead on three occasions in the first half and still led 31-22 after a Glaws free throw with 3:50 left in the period.  But East Stroudsburg finished the half on a 11-4 run, trimming its deficit to 35-33 at halftime on a three-pointer by Brittany Lacey.

The Warriors were still within four at 42-38 six minutes into the second half before IUP opened things up again with a 11-4 run that made it 53-42 at the 10:19 mark.  Glaws had five points and Gallo added four as part of the Indian surge.

A three-pointer by Onofre made it 53-45, but that would be as close as East Stroudsburg would get.  Gallo scored eight points as part of a 14-4 run that gave IUP a 67-49 lead with only 4:05 left in the game.

IUP opens PSAC West play on Wednesday at Lock Haven in a 6:00 contest.
