IUP Splits Four Matches at Charleston; Trisha Gerus Named to All-Tournament Team

IUP defeated Concord and Alderson-Broaddus and dropped matches to West Virginia State and Charleston, all by 3-0 scores, at the Country Inns & Suites Classic hosted by the University of Charleston.

IUP defeated Concord, 30-8, 30-23, 30-15 and Alderson-Broaddus 30-21, 30-25, 30-26 while losing to West Virginia State 30-17, 30-23, 32-30 and Charleston 30-15, 30-20, 30-22.

Senior middle blocker Trisha Gerus (pictured), who had 38 kills and a .322 hitting percentage in the four matches, was IUP's representative on the all-tournament team.

Gerus led IUP with 16 kills against Alderson-Broaddus, added 12 against Concord and had five against both West Virginia State and Charleston.

Michelle Jones led IUP over the weekend with 46 kills while Jill Bixler added 34.  Jones had 17 kills against Concord and 16 against Alderson-Broaddus.

Alicia Koches had 105 assists and 23 digs.  Bixler paced IUP in digs with 30, followed by Krista Nordby (26) and Carri Cole (24).  Autumn Burke had 12 service aces, including 10 against Concord.

IUP plays its first two PSAC West matches of the season next week, traveling to Edinboro on Tuesday (7 p.m.) and hosting Clarion on Saturday (2 p.m.).
