IUP rallied from a 2-0 deficit to post a 3-2 win over Slippery Rock on
Tuesday at Morrow Field House to keep its hopes alive for a berth in the
NCAA tournament.
The win snapped a three-match losing streak for IUP (16-12, 3-6 PSAC West)
and came against a Slippery Rock team that was ranked second in the NCAA
Division II Atlantic Region. The Rock is now 28-7 overall and 5-4 in the
PSAC West.
IUP
lost the first two games by scores of 28-30 and 24-30 before storming back
to take the final three games by counts of 30-21, 30-22 and 15-9.
Trisha Gerus (pictured) led IUP with 20 kills and nine blocks while Michelle
Jones added 18 kills. Alicia Koches had 62 assists and eight blocks, Krista Nordby made 19
digs. Laura Robinette and Autumn Burke both had 11 kills, with Robinette
adding nine digs.
IUP wraps up the regular season against Lock Haven at Memorial Field House
Saturday at 6 p.m. After that match, IUP will have to wait until November 5
to see if it will earn its seventh consecutive bid to the NCAA tournament.
