IUP Opens Volleyball Season with Home Loss to Juniata

IUP opened its first volleyball season under new head coach Zach Shaver against perennial Division III national power Juniata and dropped a 3-0 decision to the Eagles Tuesday night at Memorial Field House.

Juniata (5-0) won by scores of 30-19, 30-21, 30-26 as IUP played the Eagles tough after a slow start.

Jill Bixler (pictured) led IUP with nine kills, followed by Trisha Gerus with eight. 

Alicia Koches directed the IUP offense efficiently with 23 assists to go along with nine digs while Carri Cole was a standout on defense, joining Koches with nine digs.

IUP is back in action this weekend with four matches at the University of Charleston Invitational, beginning with contests against West Virginia State and Concord on Friday.
