IUP Volleyball Season Wraps up with Atlantic Region Quarterfinal Loss to Slippery Rock

IUP dropped a 3-0 decision to Slippery Rock in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region tournament at Lock Haven.

Slippery Rock won by scores of 30-24, 30-12, 30-28.  The final game featured 13 ties and nine lead changes, with IUP holding a 28-27 lead before The Rock ran off the final three points of the match.

The defeat ends IUP's season with a record of 16-14.  IUP, seeded sixth in the tournament, was playing in the Atlantic Regional for the seventh consecutive year.  Slippery Rock (31-8), the No. 3 seed, advances to the semifinals on Friday.

Michelle Jones led IUP with 11 kills while adding five digs and two blocks.  Trisha Gerus and Laura Robinette both had eight kills and two blocks.

Alicia Koches handed out 21 assists and made six kills and eight digs.  Krista Nordby led the defense with 12 digs.  Autumn Burke contributed four service aces and three blocks.

Anastasia Urbanik and Louise Schultz led Slippery Rock with 12 and 11 kills, respectively, with Urbanik adding three blocks.  Sara Kirsch had 38 assists and six aces.
