IUP Wins Three of Four
Matches at Wheeling Jesuit Tournament

IUP posted shutout wins over Alderson-Broaddus,
Fairmont State and Wheeling Jesuit and suffered a 3-1 loss to
Indianapolis at the Wheeling Jesuit Tournament this weekend in West
Virginia.
The Indians (19-5) began the tournament with a
30-13, 30-22, 30-18 win over Alderson-Broaddus. Brittany Gates led
the way with 13 kills, and Michelle Jones and Jill Bixler both had nine,
with Bixler adding 16 digs.
Alicia Koches had 44 assists, Krista Nordby made 24
digs, and Trisha Gerus had six blocks.
Gerus had 11 kills and four blocks in a 30-25,
30-12, 30-26 win over Fairmont State. Gates had eight kills,
Koches dished out 39 assists and made 15 digs, Nordby had 16 digs and
three aces while Bixler posted 13 digs.
IUP began play on Saturday with its only loss of
the tournament, a setback to Indianapolis by scores of 23-30, 30-25,
30-28, 30-21.
Gates, Bixler, Gerus and Jones starred at the net
for the Indians. Gates had 19 kills, Bixler had 11 kills to go
along with 17 digs, Gerus added 10 kills and five blocks, and Jones made
nine kills.
Koches had 53 assists and two aces, Nordby had 35
digs and Jackie Bishop added 16 digs.
IUP rebounded with a 30-18, 30-27, 30-25 win over
host Wheeling Jesuit in the final match of the weekend. Gates led
the Indians with 10 kills and three blocks.
Jones added nine kills, Kelly Wolff had eight kills
and 15 digs, Koches handed out 34 assists and served three aces, and
Nordby and Bishop both had 10 digs.
IUP returns to PSAC West play on Tuesday with a 7
p.m. match at Edinboro.
