IUP Sweeps Clarion,
Moves Closer to PSAC Playoff Spot

IUP scored three close victories over Clarion on
Tueday night to move within one game of third place in the PSAC West.
The 3-0 win over the Golden Eagles came by scores
of 30-27, 30-28, 30-28. IUP is 23-8 overall and 3-5 in the PSAC
West. The Indians are one game behind Slippery Rock, which lost to
Edinboro.
The top three teams in both divisions qualify for
the conference tournament, which takes place November 11-12 at the
highest seed in the East.
Michelle Jones, Kelly Wolff and Heather Bauer each
had 14 kills to lead IUP past Clarion. Bauer added three blocks,
and Brittany Gates had eight blocks to go along with her 13 kills.
Alicia Koches had 49 assists and 12 digs, one of
four five Indians to record double digits in digs. She was joined
in that category by Carri Cole (15), Krista Nordby (13), Jill Bixler
(11) and Wolff (10).
IUP plays its final non-conference match of the
season against New Haven on Saturday. The 11 a.m. match will take
place at Slippery Rock.
The Indians then finish PSAC West play at
California on Tuesday and home against Edinboro four days later.
