IUP Falls to
California in Battle of PSAC West Contenders

California won the final two games to break a tie
and the Vulcans posted a 3-1 win over IUP in a PSAC West battle Tuesday
night at Memorial Field House. The loss snapped a six-match
winning streak for IUP.
IUP fell into a tie for third place in the PSAC
West with Slippery Rock with a 2-2 division record (16-4 overall).
California (15-1, 4-1) stayed one game behind leader Lock Haven.
Brittany Gates and Trisha Gerus both had 20 kills
to lead IUP, with Gerus adding four blocks. Also reaching double
figures in kills were Michelle Jones (14) and Jill Bixler (12).
Gates and Bixler both had two blocks and Bixler
made 19 digs.
Alicia Koches had 59 assists, 11 digs, three kills
and two aces. Krista Nordby led the Indians in digs with 33, Carri
Cole had 14 and Jackie Bishop posted 11. Bishop also had four
assists.
IUP will look to get back to its winning ways this
weekend when the team travels to Wheeling, W.Va., to play four matches.
The Indians face Alderson-Broaddus and Fairmont State on Friday and
Indianapolis and Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday.
