IUP Track and Field Athletes Take Five First Place Finishes at Two Events on Saturday

Jermaine Clayton and Lahnor Ridley both won the triple jump and Casie Williams took first in the high jump at the Wake Forest Open to highlight the IUP track and field team's performance on Saturday.

Meanwhile, at the Jim Taylor Invitational hosted by Susquehanna, Eric Kruttschnitt won the 1500 and Brian Reed took first in the 110 hurdles.

Ridley had a top mark of 35 feet, 10 inches to win the triple jump, and she was second only to teammate Williams in the high jump.  Williams cleared the bar at 5'3 3/4" and Ridley had a best effort of 5'1 3/4".

Clayton's winning distance in the triple jump was 44'7 1/2".  He also placed fourth in both 100 (10.76), the top mark in the PSAC, and the 200 (22.13).

Rounding out the top showings at Wake Forest were second place finishes by Sean Strauman in the 800 (1:54.9) and Gretchen Colwell in the hammer throw (131'8").

Kruttschnitt had the top performance for IUP at the Susquehanna meet, setting a Lopardo Stadium record in the 1500 with a time of 3:57.44.  Reed had a winning time of 15.27 in the 110 hurdles and was second in the 400 hurdles (57.42).

Katie Farnsworth and Erica Hoffman both had top three finishes in the 800 and 1500.  Farnsworth was second in the 800 (2:21.80) and third in the 1500 (4:50.97).  Hoffman was second in the 1500 (4:45.12) and third in the 800 (2:22.35).

Tamara Smith was third in the women's 100 (13.45) and Dan Sain was third in the men's 400 hurdles (58.13).  Finishing fourth in the men's competition were Nate Shelly in the 10,000 (33:08.86) and Chad Paronish in the javelin (185'0").

Both IUP teams will compete at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational next Saturday.
