Jermaine Clayton won three events, Gretchen Colwell
won twice and Sean Strauman and Nicole Blaesser provisionally qualified for nationals to lead the IUP track and field team at the PSAC West Challenge
hosted by California.
Clayton won the 100 meters and triple jump and tied
for first in the long jump. Strauman lowered his own school
record in the 800 with a winning time of 1:51.50.
Colwell was the women's champion in the discus and
hammer and was third in the shot put. Blaesser had a provisional
qualifying time of 10:11.40 in the 3000.
In the team standings, the IUP women were second
with 166.25 points, trailing only Slippery Rock, which had 262.25.
On the men's side, IUP was third with 132, behind Shippensburg (230) and
Slippery Rock (161.5).
Other men's winners included Adam Shinsky in the
steeplechase, Chris Gardner in the high jump and Rob Conrad in the
javelin.
Jess Moyer tied
for first in the pole vault, and Casie Williams and Katie Farnsworth scored in
multiple events for the women. Williams was second in both the
long jump and high jump while Farnsworth placed third in the 800 and
1500.
IUP athletes will compete at the Bucknell Distance
Carnival and the Slippery Rock Invitational next weekend.
