Jermaine Clayton Named
Most Outstanding Performer at PSAC Track and Field Meet

Jermaine Clayton was named the Field Athlete of the
Meet and the Most Outstanding Overall Performer at the PSAC Track and
Field Championships which wrapped up Saturday at California.
Clayton, who won the long jump on Friday, took
first place in the triple jump and 100 meters on the final day of
competition, setting new school records in both events.
Clayton broke his own school in the triple jump
with a leap of 48 feet, 7 1/4 inches that improved his national standing
and chances of qualifying for nationals. His time of 10.50 in the
100 was .07 better than Mario Hardison's school mark set in 1996 and put
him in the top 10 in the nation.
Clayton also ran legs on a pair of relay teams that
scored for the IUP men. He was joined by Lenwood House, Brian Reed
and Chris Gardner on the fifth place team in the 4x100 relay (42.02) and
by Gardner, Dan Sain and Sean Strauman on the unit that was sixth in the
4x400 relay (3:20.53).
Strauman gave IUP another first place finish on
Saturday, crossing ahead of the field in the 800 with a time of 1:55.14.
Strauman is undefeated in PSAC competition in the 800, winning the
indoor and outdoor titles in each of his first two collegiate seasons.
On the women's side, three athletes scored in a
pair of individual events, led by distance runner Nicole Blaesser.
Blaesser was second in the 5000 (17:26.96) and third in the 3000
(10:11.70).
Katie Farnsworth was third in the 1500 (4:43.42)
and eighth in the 800 (2:30.21). Erica Hoffman was fifth in both
the 1500 (4:50.36) and 3000 (10:28.43).
Lahnor Ridley was second (37-5 3/4) and Casie
Williams was eighth in the triple jump (35-7 1/2). Gretchen
Colwell was fourth in the hammer (143-11), Marissa Rolling was fifth in
the 400 (58.64) and Stacie Stockard was eighth in the steeplechase
(11:44.36).
The women's 4x400 relay team of Rolling, Ridley,
Lauren Fisher and Siarra Cornelius was third (3:54.95) and the 4x100
squad of Rolling, Ridley, Fisher and Abbey Doran was sixth (49.76).
The men's scorers also included a pair in the
steeplechase, with Adam Shinsky finishing fifth (9:34.19), two spots
ahead of Bobbie Boston (9:45.35). Gardner was sixth in the high
jump (6-4 3/4) and Reed was seventh in the 110 hurdles (15.08).
Both IUP teams finished in fifth place. The
men had 72 points, trailing Shippensburg (168), Slippery Rock (140.5),
Kutztown (115.5) and Lock Haven (88).
The women totaled 78 points, behind Slippery Rock
(207), Lock Haven (107), Kutztown (101) and Shippensburg (87).
