Sean Strauman
automatically qualified for nationals while winning the 800 meters, and Troy
Litten tied for first in the pole vault to highlight the IUP performance at
the Bison Invitational indoor track and field meet on Saturday.
Strauman, a four-time
All-American in the 800, posted a time of 1:51.09 to set a new meet record.
Litten, an outdoor All-American in the pole vault last spring, cleared the
bar at 15 feet, 9 inches to join a group of four athletes who tied for
first.
On the women’s side,
Gretchen Colwell was fourth in the weight throw with a personal best effort
of 51 feet, 6 ¼ inches, a mark that just missed an NCAA qualifying
standard. Brianna Liebold placed third in the long jump with a best leap of
17 feet, 11 ¼ inches.
Both IUP teams are back in
action on Saturday at the Golden Flash Gala hosted by Kent State.
