Spickler
Former IUP All-America Brian Spickler
is in his sixth season on the IUP coaching staff. He was promoted to head
coach of the men’s track and field team in 2002 and took over the reins
of the women’s team the following year.
Spickler
was a decathlete on the IUP track and field team from 1995-98. He was
the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference champion in the event as a
sophomore and junior and merited All-America honors his junior and
senior campaigns.
Spickler was the PSAC Athlete of the Meet and
Athlete of the Year in 1997 and also earned ECAC
Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors twice.
Spickler received the Dr. Eugene E. Lepley
Memorial Scholarship for his work as a health and physical education
major and was selected the most outstanding senior in his department in
the spring of 1998. He earned his bachelor of science degree as a
magna cum laude graduate in 1998 and his master's degree in 2002.
Spickler continued his track and field career in
1999 as a member of the Elite Athletics Track Club while serving as an
assistant track and field coach at Northern Colorado from August 1999 to
June 2001. There, he worked with multi-event athletes as well as
the throwers and coached four NCAA All-Americans.
In 2002 Spickler competed at the
U.S. Indoor Track and Field Championships and was also a member of the
U.S. bobsled team that competed at the World Cup in Europe.
To date, Spickler has coached one national
champion, 17 All-Americans and 35 conference champions.
