Brianna Liebold and Gretchen Colwell both won two events and the IUP track
and field team had a total of five first place finishes at the Slippery Rock
Invitational held at Morrow Field House.
Liebold won the long jump with a top effort of 17 feet, 7 ½ inches and also
had the best performance in the triple jump with a leap of 35-7 ¼. Liebold
stands first in the PSAC in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump.
Colwell was first in the shot put and moved into second in the conference
with a throw of 41-3 ¼ and also had the meet’s top mark in the weight throw
at 49-8 ½. She already held first place in the PSAC and has provisionally
qualified for nationals in the weight throw.
Chris Gardner provided IUP with its fifth event win, taking first in the
men’s long jump at 21-2. He was also sixth in the 55 meters with a time of
6.78.
Finishing second for the IUP women were Jackie Youra in the high jump (5-0)
and Liz Tepsic in the triple jump (34-8 ½). Other top places for the men
were turned in by Dan Huygens, who was fourth in the 400 meters (54.03) and
Kevin Bittner (43-10 ½) and Eric Bowers (43- ½), who were fifth and sixth,
respectively, in the weight throw.
Both IUP teams will compete at the Kane Invitational this Saturday at
Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
