Casie Williams Win PSAC Event Titles

Jermaine Clayton and Casie Williams won event
championships to highlight the opening day performance for the IUP track
and field team at the PSAC Meet being held at California.
Clayton won the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 7
1/4 inches and was the second fastest qualifier in the 100 meters with a
time of 10.81.
Williams scored in two events for the women.
She won the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-5 and was fifth in the long
jump with a best mark of 16-11 3/4. Williams was one spot ahead of
Lahnor Ridley (16-11 1/2) in the long jump.
Gretchen Colwell was the third IUP woman to score
on Friday, taking fifth in the shot put with a distance of 40-7 3/4.
The IUP men took two spots in the javelin.
Rob Conrad finished third with a throw of 205-4, and Mike Rairigh, an
All-American in the event last year, was fifth at 195-8. Chris
Gardner also scored in the long jump, placing fifth (22-3 1/4).
In addition to Clayton, four other IUP athletes
qualified for finals in Friday prelim events. Sean Strauman paced
the group with the top qualifying time in the 800 (1:53.67).
Also advancing to the finals were Brian Reed in the
110 hurdles, Marissa Rolling in the 400 and Katie Farnsworth in the 800.
Both IUP teams are currently in fifth place.
With 24 points, the men trail Slippery Rock (69), Lock Haven (40),
Shippensburg (26) and Kutztown (25).
The women have 21 points, behind Shippensburg (54),
Slippery Rock (40), Lock Haven (29) and East Stroudsburg (25).
Most running events and the remaining field events
will take place on Saturday.
