Day 1 Results

Gretchen Colwell won the weight throw title to highlight the first day performance of the IUP track and field team at the PSAC indoor championships hosted by East Stroudsburg.

Colwell, the top seed in the event entering the meet, had a long throw of 53 feet, ¼ inch, more than a foot longer than her nearest competitor. 

Also scoring on the women’s side was Laura Blaesser, who finished seventh in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:27.82.  The distance medley relay team of Maureen Newell, Laura Bauer, Bridget Connolly and Kelly Best was fourth in 12:45.64.

The men were led by three athletes who scored in individual events.  Troy Litten was third in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 15-5.  Litten actually tied two other athletes for the highest jump but was third based on the number of misses.

Chris Gardner was fourth in the long jump at 22-3, and Nate Shelly was seventh in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:29.61.  The distance medley relay squad of Matt Gaudet, Dan Huygens, Steve Wainwright and Ben Havko was fifth in 10:36.83.

The remainder of the event schedule will take place on Sunday.
