Sean Strauman, Troy Litten, Nicole Blaesser Take First Place Finishes at PSAC Meet

Sean Strauman, Troy Litten and Nicole Blaesser each won event titles to lead the IUP track and field team's performance on the final day of the PSAC indoor championships at East Stroudsburg.

Strauman won the 800 meters (1:52.82) and Litten captured the pole vault (15 feet, 5 1/2 inches) for the IUP men while Blaesser crossed first in the 3000 meters (10:07.20) in the women's competition.

Strauman remained undefeated in the 800 in three indoor and two outdoor PSAC championships and will compete at nationals in Boston on March 10-11. 

Litten provided IUP with its first indoor field title in the six-year history of the PSAC meet and first in the pole vault overall since Doug Johnson  in 1991 and 1992.

Blaesser won a PSAC individual championship for the first time in her career.  She also placed fifth in the mile (5:07.99), two spots behind teammate Maureen Newell, who was third in 5:06.99.  Blaesser will run the 5000 meters at nationals.

Ceasar Westbrook, who was fourth in the long jump on Saturday, took second in the triple jump and improved his national standing with a leap of 48-6 1/4. 

Casie Williams scored twice for the women, tying for fourth in the high jump (5-3 1/4) and placing eighth in the triple jump (35-2 1/2).  Gretchen Colwell was fourth in the shot put (40-7).

Alec Rice joined Litten as a scorer in the men's pole vault, tying for fifth (13-11 3/4).  Jorge Medina was seventh in the 3000 meters (8:40.22).

IUP finished sixth in the men's team standings while the women were eighth.  Lock Haven won the men's team title and Slippery Rock took the women's crown.
