IUP Women Take First Place in Distance Medley Relay on First Day of PSAC Meet

IUP won the women’s distance medley relay to highlight team team’s performance on the first day of the PSAC indoor track and field championships.

The team of Erica Hoffman, Samantha Pistorius, Maureen Newell and Nicole Blaesser posted a time of 12:15.71 to beat runner-up Slippery Rock by 3.71 seconds.  It marked the fourth time in the six years of the PSAC indoor meet that the IUP women won the event.

In women’s individual events, Gretchen Colwell was third in the weight throw with a best mark of 49 feet, 9 inches and Stacie Stockard was seventh in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:40.14. 

Ceasar Westbrook turned in the top finish for the IUP men, placing fourth in the long jump with a leap of 22-11.  IUP also had two scorers in the 5000, with Jorge Medina finishing fifth (14:57.26) and Nate Shelly taking eighth (15:22.25).

Troy Litten was eighth in the pentathlon, including the top mark in the long jump (21-10 ¾), the men’s distance medley relay team was sixth (10:36.01) and the 4 x 800 relay squad was eighth (8:16.11).

IUP is currently sixth in the both team standings.  Slippery Rock is first in the women’s competition while Lock Haven leads the men’s race.
