Sean Strauman, Rob Conrad Earn All-America Honors at NCAA Track and Field Meet

Results of IUP Competitors

IUP sophomores Sean Strauman and Rob Conrad both gained spots on the All-America team by placing in the top eight on final day competition at the NCAA track and field championships at Emporia, Kansas.

Strauman finished seventh in the 800 meters while Conrad was eighth in the javelin.

Strauman had a time of 1:56.60 in a tightly contested field that was separated by just 1:21 seconds from first to eighth.  Nick Lara of Adams State won in 1:55.46.  Strauman was also an indoor track All-American in the 800, finishing eighth in March.

Strauman became the first IUP men's outdoor All-American in a running event since Derek Brinkley won the 400 meter hurdles in 2001.

Conrad had a top throw of 208 feet, 9 inches to become the fifth different IUP javelin thrower in the past eight years to achieve All-America status in the event.  Mike Rairigh, who was sixth a year ago, was 11th this year with a best effort of 203-1.

Andrew Vogelsburg of host Emporia State was the winner of the javelin competition with a throw of 245-3, topping the field by over 24 feet.

Jermaine Clayton was the final IUP athlete to compete Saturday, finishing 19th in the triple jump with a best leap of 47-7 3/4.
