Results of IUP Competitors
IUP sophomore Sean Strauman took first in his heat
and had the top qualifying time overall in the prelims of the 800 meters
at the NCAA track and field championships at Emporia, Kansas.
Strauman, seeded 12th in the event entering
nationals, posted a time of 1:51.77 on Friday to put himself in position
to make a run at IUP's first men's track individual title since Derek
Brinkley won the 400 hurdles in 2001.
Strauman was an All-American in the 800 at the NCAA
indoor meet in March with an eighth place finish. He is the school
record holder with a time of 1:51.50 and a four-time PSAC champion,
including twice each at the conference indoor and outdoor meets.
The finals of the 800 takes place Saturday night.
Other IUP competitors on the final day of the meet will be Jermaine
Clayton in the triple jump and Rob Conrad and Mike Rairigh in the
javelin.
