Jermaine Clayton Wins Two Events, Sean Strauman Captures 800 at Golden Flash Gala

Jermaine Clayton took first place in the 60 meters and long jump and Sean Strauman won the 800 meters for the second time in as many meets this season to lead the IUP track and field team at the Golden Flash Gala hosted by Kent State.

Clayton posted a time of 6.93 in the 60 while his 22'7" effort in the long jump edged teammate Chris Gardner, who finished second with a jump of 22'5 1/4".  Gardner was fifth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6'3 1/4".

Strauman, who won the 800 at the Bison Opener a week ago, took first in the event again at Kent State, crossing the finish line in a time of 1:56.06.

Clayton, Gardner and Strauman were joined by Ivelin Penchev on IUP's 4x400 meter relay team that finished third in 3:25.01.

Casie Williams topped the IUP women, finishing in the top seven in three events, topped by a second place finish in the high jump with a best mark of 5'3 1/4".  She was sixth in the triple jump (34'10 1/2") and seventh in the long jump (16'5").

Kristen Jones was third in the 60 meters (7.90) and fifth in the long jump (16'10") while Gretchen Colwell was third in the shot put with a throw of 41'4 1/4".

In other men's showings, Brian Reed was fourth in the 60 hurdles (8.73), Brandon Rudolph was fifth in the triple jump (40'8 1/4") and Alec Rice was seventh in the pole vault (13'11 1/4").

Rounding out the women's top efforts were Jess Moyer, who was sixth in the pole vault (10'1 1/4") and Angela Watson, who was seventh in the triple jump (34'8 1/4").

Both IUP teams are back in action January 21 at the Slippery Rock Open.
