Conrad Have Record Setting Performances at Carnegie Mellon

Jermaine Clayton and Rob Conrad both turned in
record setting performances to lead the IUP track and field team's
showing at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Saturday.
Clayton set a school, stadium and meet record in
the long jump with a leap of 24 feet, 9 3/4 inches. He broke the
mark of 23-11 held by Eric Vassal since 1988. Clayton also holds
the school mark in the triple jump at 47-9.
Conrad set a stadium and meet record in the javelin
with a throw of 214-10. He entered the week ranked second in the
nation in the event after throwing 214-9 at Wake Forest last week.
Katie Farnsworth was the third IUP event winner,
crossing first in the 1500 with a time of 4:47.15, just ahead of
teammate Erica Hoffman, who was second in 4:49.85.
Both IUP teams won the Division II and III portion
of the scored meet and were fourth overall behind only Pitt, Robert
Morris and Duquesne.
Gretchen Colwell scored for the IUP women in three
events. She was third in the hammer throw (149-11), fourth in the
discus (123-6) and fifth in the shot put (39-1 1/4).
Jess Moyer was third in the pole vault (10-6) while
Casie Williams was fourth in the high jump (5-1) and fifth in the long
jump (16-9 1/4).
On the men's side, Chris Gardner was in the top
three in a pair of events. He was second to Clayton in the long
jump (22-11 3/4) and third in the high jump (6-4 3/4).
Dan Sain was third in the 400 hurdles (56.53), one
spot ahead of Brian Reed (57.89). Reed was also fourth in the 110
hurdles (15.82). The 4x100 relay team of Clayton, Gardner, Reed
and Lenwood House was third in 43.16.
IUP is back in action at the PSAC West Challenged
hosted by California next Saturday.
