Lahnor Ridley won the triple jump and was fourth in
the high jump on Sunday and was named the Outstanding Field Athlete of
the Meet at the PSAC indoor track and field championships at East
Stroudsburg.
Ridley, who also won the long jump on the first day
of the meet on Saturday, had a leap of 38'2 1/4" in the triple jump and
cleared the bar at 5'5" in the high jump. Both marks earned her a
provisional qualification for nationals, as did her long jump effort.
Joining Ridley as an event champion for IUP was
Sean Strauman, who repeated as the titlist in the 800 meters. His
time of 1:55.05 matched his own meet record.
Jermaine Clayton scored in two events for the men,
including a second place effort of 47'9" in the triple jump which broke
a 20-year-old school record and was a provisional qualifying mark.
Clayton was also third in the 55 meters (6.48).
A pair of women scored in the same two events.
Nicole Blaesser was second in the 3000 (10:12.52) and third in the mile
(5:09.29) while Erica Hoffman was fifth in the mile (5:14.60) and sixth
in the 3000 (10:32.56).
Gretchen Colwell also turned in a provisional
qualifying mark with a throw of 43'9 1/2" in the shot put which placed
her second.
Rounding out the top women's performances were
Casie Williams, who tied for fifth in the high jump (5'3") and Marissa
Rolling, who took sixth in the 400 meters (1:00.12).
Three other men scored points for IUP, including a
third place finish for Jorge Medina in the 3000 (8:33.47). Luke
Sitosky was sixth in the pentathlon (2,932 points) and Justin Udo was
eighth in the 55 meters (6.63).
In the team standings, the IUP women were third
with 89 points, trailing Kutztown (111) and Slippery Rock (92).
The men had 55 points and finished sixth. Shippensburg had 144
points to take the men's title.
IUP athletes who have met the provisional
qualifying standards will learn this week whether they will advance to
the NCAA meet on March 10-11 in Boston.
