Sean Strauman Places Eighth in 800 Meters at NCAA Indoor Track and Field Meet

Complete Men's Results

IUP sophomore Sean Strauman finished eighth in a tightly packed field to earn All-American honors in the 800 meters at the NCAA Division II indoor track and field championships Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

After posting the top time in the field of 13 runners in the prelims on Friday (1:52.47), Strauman turned in a time of 1:53.68 in the finals.  Only 1.53 seconds separated first from eighth, with Nick Lara of Adams State winning the race in 1:52.15.

Strauman was attempting to become IUP's first indoor track and field national champion and first in either indoor or outdoor since Mark Bridge won the javelin in 2002.

IUP begins its outdoor track and field season Mar. 24-25 at the Demon Deacon Open in Winston-Salem, N.C., and the Susquehanna Invitational in Selinsgrove.
