IUP Swimmers Sweep Two Events on Final Day to Win Crimson Hawk Invitational and Beat Three Division I Teams

Day 3 Results

The women’s swim team won the Crimson Hawk Invitational, beating out Division I Saint Francis University 832-803, and defeating four other teams, including two more Division I teams.

The women swept two events and placed in the top three in every event on the final day of the three-day invitational. Melissa Kucharczuk won the 100 freestyle with an NCAA “B” cut time of 53.86, as Abbey Doran took second (54.37) and Galit Regev took third (54.47).

Doran, Regev and Kucharczuk also combined with Brittany Watkins to win the 400 freestyle relay (3:38.59).

In the 200 breastroke, Watkins took first with a “B” cut time of 2:26.51, and Kate Rowe (2:27.21) and Tara Pitts (2:29.89) took second and third.

Heidi Mitskavich won the 1650 freestyle with a “B” cut time of 17:56.87 and Jen Price came in second (18:14.61). Jordan Myers took second in the 200 butterfly (2:14.66) and Casey Beck placed third in the 200 backstroke (2:13.45).

For the men, Pawel Glowiak won the 200 backstroke (2:04.88), Luke Shaheen won the 100 freestyle (50.17), Jeff Gavin won the 1650 freestyle (17:11.95), and Mike Cornman won the 200 breaststroke (2:26.88). The 400 freestyle relay of Glowiak, Gavin, Shaheen and Dennis Collins won with at time of 3:15.15.

Both teams return to action December 1 with a 1 p.m. meet at Lock Haven.
