Both IUP swim teams
finished off team victories at the IUP Invitational which concluded on
Sunday at Memorial Field House.
The women had a three-day
point total of 1,141.5 to defeat California (870.5), Slippery Rock (479),
Mansfield (382) and West Virginia Wesleyan (260). The men’s total of 712
points bested West Virginia Wesleyan (436).
IUP won five of six women’s
events on the final day of the meet, including a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100
free. Galit Regev won that race with a time of 54.83, followed by Abbey
Doran (55.43) and Carlee Myers (55.62).
Kate Rowe won her fifth
individual event, taking first in the 200 breast (2:28.61). Other winners
on Sunday included Myers in the 200 fly (2:13.22) and Heidi Mitskavich in
the 1650 free (18:15.32). Casey Beck was third in the 200 back (2:13.48).
Regev, Rowe, Doran and Myers teamed to win the 400 free relay in 3:44.24.
Pawel Glowiak led four IUP
event champions, taking the 200 back in 2:05.87. Glowiak won the 50 free
and 100 back earlier in the meet and had NCAA B cuts in those two events.
James Reed won the 200 fly
(2:00.76), Baron Leonard took the 200 breast (2:32.74) and Eric Schepner was
victorious in the 1650 free (18:18.42), followed in second by Martin
Zackowski (18:42.72).
IUP swimmers will compete
next at the U.S. Open Meet November 30-December 1 at West Lafayette, Ind.
