IUP won nine of 10 events
to open up a sizeable lead after the first day of the IUP Invitational at
Memorial Field House.
The women have 296 points
to lead California (210), Slippery Rock (109), Mansfield (94), West Virginia
Wesleyan (81) and Wheeling Jesuit (3). The men totaled 333 points, well
ahead of West Virginia Wesleyan (201) and Wheeling Jesuit (21).
The IUP women’s 200 free
relay team of Abbey Doran, Brittany Watkins, Galit Regev and Carlee Myers
won in 1:40.24. The 400 medley relay unit of Doran, Myers, Casey Beck and
Kate Rowe was first in 4:05.09.
Rowe was victorious in a
pair of individual events. She won the 500 free (5:15.92) with Melissa
Kucharczuk taking second (5:20.57). Rowe also won the 200 IM (2:14.94),
edging Watkins (2:17.47). Doran won the 50
free in an NCAA B cut time of 24.65.
The IUP men also won both
relays. In the 200 free relay, Troy Greathouse, Chris Crooks, James Reed
and Pawel Glowiak won in 1:29.51 while the squad of Greathouse, Reed,
Glowiak and Baron Leonard won the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:37.71.
Glowiak had a B cut time in
the 50 free (21.33) and Reed was first in the 200 IM (2:02.89). Martin
Zackowski was second in the 500 free (5:14.74).
The three-day meet
continues on Saturday with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m., and
concludes on Sunday at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
