The IUP women's swim team finished in third place while the men took sixth
at the PSAC championships held at Cumberland Valley High School in
Mechanicsburg.
The women had a total of
381 points, trailing only perennial powers West Chester and Clarion.
Those two schools were also 1-2 in the men's standings, followed by
Shippensburg, Kutztown, Edinboro and IUP, which finished with 255.5 points.
In individual events held
on Sunday, IUP swimmers earned six spot in the A finals. That group
was led by Carlee Myers, who was second in the women's 200 butterfly
(2:10.47), Pawel Glowiak, who took third in the men's 200 backstroke
(1:52.68) and James Reed, who was third in the 200 butterfly (1:57.59).
Also reaching the
championship finals on the women's side were Heidi Mitskavich, who was fifth
in the 1650 freestyle (17:56.46), Kate Rowe, who was sixth in the 200
breaststroke (2:26.77) and Casey Beck, who was seventh in the 200 backstroke
(2:13.09).
IUP had four scorers in the
women's 200 breaststroke. Following Rowe were Tara Pitts (11th,
2:28.37), Brittany Watkins (12th, 2:28.61) and Natasha Iacobucci (14th,
2:49.99).
Rounding out the women's
scorers were Erin Cunnane, who took 12th in the 200 butterfly (2:18.70) and
Abbey Doran, who finished 14th in the 100 freestyle (54.67). The 400
freestyle relay team of Myers, Rowe, Doran and Galit Regev was sixth
(3:37.16).
Baron Leonard (2:15.91) and
Jason Mohring (2:29.38) were 11th and 16th, respectively, in the men's 200
breaststroke. Brenden Hiscock was 15th in the 1650 freestyle
(17:47.04) and George Maue was 16th in the 200 butterfly (2:06.23).
The men's 400 freestyle
relay team of Glowiak, Reed, Hiscock and Troy Greathouse was sixth in
3:18.69.
