Three Events at PSAC Meet After Capturing 100 Freestyle on Saturday

Luci Plaxton became a three-time champion at the
2006 PSAC Meet on Saturday by winning the 100 freestyle, helping IUP
take a third place finish in the final team standings.
Plaxton had an NCAA A cut time of 52.09 in the 100
freestyle to go along with her wins in the 50 freestyle on Thursday and
the 100 backstroke on Friday.
Plaxton also won the same three events at last
year's conference meet and was the national runner-up in the 100
freestyle at the NCAA Division II championships last March.
The IUP women finished with 578 points, trailing
Clarion (928.5) and West Chester (890.5). The IUP men, meanwhile,
placed fourth with 255 points, placing behind West Chester (617),
Clarion (441) and Shippensburg (296).
Heidi Mitskavich turned in a second place finish in
the women's 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:37.80. Also
qualifying for the A finals were Carlee Myers (third in the 200
butterfly, 2:09.38) and Natasha Iacobucci (sixth in the 200
breaststroke, 2:28.57).
The 400 freestyle relay team of Plaxton, Myers,
Galit Regev and Melissa Kucharczuk was second in 3:34.18.
The men had four swimmers in the top six, led by a
pair of third place finishes in Pawel Glowiak in the 200 backstroke
(1:55.12) and James Reed in the 200 butterfly (1:56.68).
Jeremy Butler was one spot behind Glowiak, taking
fourth in the 200 backstroke (1:55.20) while Hamilton Terrell was fourth
in the 1650 freestyle (16:22.46).
Glowiak, Terrell, Butler and Alex Anderson
comprised the fifth place team in the 400 freestyle relay (3:14.89).
Qualifying IUP athletes will compete next at the
NCAA Division II championships March 8-11 in Indianapolis.
