Luci Plaxton Wins Second Individual Event at PSAC Meet by Claiming the 100 Backstroke

Luci Plaxton won the 100 backstroke to claim her second event title at the PSAC Championships, and three IUP swimmers took second place finishes in third day action at the conference meet at Clarion.

Plaxton, who won the 50 freestyle yesterday, posted an NCAA A cut time of 58.38 to win the 100 backstroke.  She has won both events at the PSAC meet in each of the past two seasons.

Placing second in the women's meet were Brittany Watkins in the 400 individual medley (4:39.55) and Carlee Myers in the 100 butterfly (58.06).  Pawel Glowiak was second in the men's 100 backstroke (52.02).

The IUP women remained in third place in the team standings with 400 points while the men maintained their fourth place rank with 176 points.

Clarion leads in the women's meet with 658.5 points, ahead of West Chester (546.5) and IUP.  West Chester leads Clarion by a margin of 416-338 in the men's meet, followed by Shippensburg (198) and IUP.

James Reed qualified for the A final in the 400 individual medley and finished fourth with a time of 4:19.22.  Jeremy Butler was fifth in the 100 backstroke (53.74), Baron Leonard was seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.48) and Alex Anderson was eighth in the 100 butterfly (53.63).

The men's 200 medley relay team of Glowiak, Leonard, Reed and Anderson was fourth (1:37.79), and the 800 freestyle relay squad of Hamilton Terrell, Billy Schneider, Brendon Hiscock and Butler was sixth (7:18.10).

Natasha Iacobucci also placed in the top 10, finishing ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.40). 

Both IUP women's relay teams finished fifth, including Plaxton, Iacobucci, Myers and Regev in the 200 medley relay (1:51.27) and Watkins, Myers, Kara Peters and Melissa Kucharczuk in the 800 freestyle relay (7:56.79).

The meet wraps up on Saturday.
